Chapter 7
7.2.2.5 Creating a video DVD/Blu-ray
Go via the Options menu to ‘1’ (creating video DVD/Blu-ray). If
you want to export your movie from the movie archive to USB
or your network, click on ‘3’ (video-export). This will call up an
extra menu.
Please select you medium/destination in the settings. This is
necessary to determine the corresponding selection and its
anticipated used capacity. If a USB or a network device has
already been set in the export menu when the menu is started,
an extra menu will ask for the desired destination.
If you have selected USB/Firewire or Network, a possible
medium will be looked for. The destinations found will be dis-
played in a list in which you can then select the actual medium.
It is not possible to include subtitles in this export. They are
therefore not taken into account. A wide variety of formats is
available for this export. Open the format list in order to select
from the export formats.
You will find different formats in the list, sorted by manufac-
turer. If you do not see the list of the manufacturer, but only
export formats, you should press the left arrow on the rocker
of your remote control. This will give you an alphabetically
sorted list of manufacturers. Please select the one you want
and use the right rocker arrow to display the possible export
formats of this manufacturer.
In case you’d like to export to an external hard disk or a con-
nected computer, you will find in the list of ‘PC files’ a large se-
lection of export formats, such as DIVX or H264. A ‘Transport
Stream, Direct, ts’ to transfer the data without conversion is
also possible here. This form is useful when network-capable
tv system are able to access network hard disks. If the monitor
can access this hard disk, it will probably be able to play these
exported movies.
Under PC files you will find an ‘Internal format’ in this list.
This option makes it possible to burn a movie in raw format
(without conversion) from the archives to a CD/DVD (exported)
and then to read it back from the CD/DVD in your DVC device
(import). Program information (name and table of contents, if
there is one) remain intact. This option makes it also possible
to ‘exchange’ movies between different DVC devices. If you
7.2.2.2 Deleting video
You can delete films from the list by selecting them in the list
and then opening the Actions menu and clicking the ‘red heart’
symbol/button (delete). The archive contents are not imme-
diately deleted in this fashion, instead, they are moved to a
trashcan. The trashcan is emptied when the system requires
more space for new recordings. The system first deletes the
films moved to the trashcan first (not necessarily the oldest
recordings). You can find the trashcan by activating the ‘all
series’ display and going up the list all the way. If you select
the trashcan from the list, you can also manually delete all
contents by clicking the red heart (delete) button in the Ac-
tions menu. After a short confirmation, the films are deleted
for good. If you press ‘right’ while selecting the trashcan, you
can select single entries in the list and delete them specifically.
You can also restore films from the trashcan. To do this, select
the title, go to the Actions menu and click on the ‘1’ button
to recuperate the movie from the trashcan. The film is then
removed from the trashcan, back to where it was before.
Note: The system capacity already considers trashcan items
as if they were deleted already. For example, if the capacity is
shown as 97%, emptying the trashcan won’t really help.
7.2.2.3 Organizing video
Open the Options menu and click on the 5 button (change list
sorting). A window will appear in which you can choose among
sorting options. These options are all based on the same data
that you have applied (or already existed) in the ‘Rename’
function (please refer to Chapter 2.2.5 (Media manager)).
7.2.2.4 Video import
Click on the 2 button (Video import) in the Options menu to
open another selection menu in which you can select the me-
dium from which you want to import. Switch into the menu you
want, in order to be able to import from this medium.
If your data is located on a USB medium, connect the USB de-
vice and select the function for searching USB devices. When
you insert a CD/DVD containing different file formats, a list will
appear in which all files are shown. Behind the file names, the
corresponding format is displayed, insofar as it is possible to
analyse it. Press the Info button to get more information about
the file. Use the Play button to display the selected entry.
